In our series of films looking at the topic of modern masculinity in Africa, we are looking at 13-year-old Lubabalo Gibson's journey into manhood in South Africa. He takes part in a major horse race in Durban - a rite of passage, passed down through several generations.

A film by Christopher Clark & Shuan Swingler Amid spiraling crime and violence in the marginalised South African township of Galeshewe, local resident Pantsi Obusitse has formed a vigilante group called Operation Wanya Tsotsi. The group has set about administering its own DIY brand of justice with a focus on corporal punishment.

A troop of 14 bonobos is on the verge of being released into the forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Congolese conservation group Amis des Bonobos du Congo (ABC) is working to make sure the communities surrounding the release site feel invested in the project.
